Center for Advanced Materials and Structures

This center was established in 1996 to conduct collaborative research between the Departments of Engineering, Physics & Astronomy, and Chemistry & Biochemistry. Between 1996 and the present, the Center has graduated 7 PhDs and several Master students. Approximately 70 major journal publications have been published based on research performed by the Center. The Center has been heavily supported by the National Science Foundation, Air Force Office of Scientific Research, the NASA Glenn Research Center, the Electric Power Research Institute, and various US electric utilities. It has been especially recognized internationally in the area of high-voltage composite insulators, high-temperature composites of aerospace applications, and for its work on the damage predictions in various composite systems.
