AP Credits
The University of Denver accepts AP credits. Some AP credits apply towards engineering program requirements. Among the most common are:
English: An AP score of 4 allows for advanced placement in the First-Year English sequence. AP credit does not exempt students from the 12 quarter hours (QH) of English course work.
Calculus (BC): An AP score of 5 gives 12 credits and exemption from all three quarters of MATH 1951, MATH 1952, MATH 1953; an AP score of 4, 8 credits and exemption from the first two quarters; and an AP score of 3, 4 credits and exemption from the first quarter.
Calculus (AB): An AP score of 5 gives 8 credits and exemption from MATH 1951, MATH 1952; an AP score of 4, 4 credits and exemption from MATH 1951.
Chemistry: AP Chemistry is accepted for general credit hours. The Chemistry department must be consulted for exemption from CHEM 1010 and CHEM 1040/1240.
Physics: AP Physics is accepted for general credit hours. However, most AP Physics courses are not equivalent to the calculus-based physics required of engineering students. Specialized courses in AP Physics (Mechanics, Electricity and Magnetism) may sometimes be accepted in place of part of the University Physics sequence. Validation of these as equivalent to part of University Physics must be obtained from the Physics Department.
